A woman was almost killed at Charlestn General Hospital in West Virginia - she was not a patient.....
she was from out of state, a well educated professional woman, who traveled to WV for an extended vacation. She was well prepared to visit her 97 year old grandmother and elderly aunt.
She had money and time to spend with them. She works on The Hill in our nations capitol during session, she manages a boutique for her friend part time. She is educated and has lived abroad.
So she took $12,000 home to grandmother, bought a furnace, a car for the family and spent a night with her grandmother at CAMC's Charleston General Hospital.
The next morning she walked into the corridor into the barrel of a loaded gun wielded by a woman she had never seen. The woman was raving and forced the victim to beg for her life.
Fortunately, as instincts often seem to serve people in time of crisis better than orders - the victim persuaded the man who disarmed her assailant to provide the serial number of the gun
to a United States Secret Service Agent whom she had spoken with earlier in the week for information on obtaining a press pass for the campaign. Fortunately because Charleston General attempted a cover up of the incident which exposes serious mangement and ethical problems at the hospital. The woman contacted local police and the West Virginia Attorney General's office by e-mail and by phone, she also contacted the hospital with a hand written letter, e-mail and phone call. The hospital did not report the crime for five weeks. In spite of the fact the hospital and the police have web pages which solicit comments, neither reply with even a simple automated response. This seems fraudulent for most of us in urban areas who live in cities where responses to public submittals are mandatory at government offices. Also too, the woman who brandished the gun was coherent enough to make a phone call to "Walter". She told Walter she was in trouble, to please help her she mentioned the Prosecutor in Kanawaha County by name, Steve, she said was a good good friend of hers. The victim prayed for her life, and prayed and
almost fainted, later she had an asthma attack, nose bleeds, headaches and nightmares. There were witnesses, at least two nurses. The 97 year old grandmother suffered from an incurable condition, she alternated between periods of wellness and times when her recurring infection caused dizziness and loss of consciousness. The man who disarmed the victim told her he was in law enforcement and intimated he was assigned to investigate drug abuse at the hospital. The assailant was wearing a pink lab smock. He tried to order her to leave the hospital, instead she text messaged the US Secret Service, wrote a letter to the hospital by hand and left a message for the police. Strange too that her assailant stroked the man's chest, and when the victim went to the security desk they said "We know all about it, we know, just go home and wait for the police to contact you."
She has been waiting for six months, on return visits to the CAMC hospital where she had no choice other than to accept the location where ambulances delivered her grandmother, she and her grandmother were subjected to derision, persecution, slander and nursing negligence. She recorded and documented the harassment, being warned that she should get out of town by staff, usually in ER. Her grandmother was denied refills of medication, and she was able to expose shortcommings not only in the security of the hospital which does not meet industry standards, but also in administration and records management. She was told when her terminally ill grandmother died the records would die with her. She documented her complaints, sending copies to the hospital and also to Department of Justice as well as the National Institute of Health. One example, her grandmother previously had broken bones from a fall, she was 95 and 96 years old when she fell. Her bones did not fuse.
On admission to ER the family gave the medical history of the elderly grandmother to staff, this was to assist in issues involving turning the woman in her bed and taking her blood pressure. But six or seven hours later in her hospital room staff would attempt to move the woman by her shoulders, when the granddaughter pointed out the woman had broken bones the staff simply refused to believe her. The mocked h er, she asked them to read the record from admissions or to telephone the grandmother's doctor. They refused. She learned the staff at CAMC is not required to take random drug tests, and nurses were often more involved in social conversations than observing patients. When she complained she found her grandmother in a winter cold hospital room with the barriers on the bed turned down without a sheet of a blanket clinging to a cold towel. Sometimes she found multiple food trays on the tray by her grandmothers bed. She was told she had abused her grandmother and that was why her bones were broken, in fact she was not present when her grandmother fell. The grandmother's daughter and a care giver were in the home for 3 years all day every day and night. It became uglier, on one visit she was walking in the corrider and was hit with a man wielding a wrench. She sent CAMC a grant application for improved security cameras and monitors available from USA GRANTS . She learned the public hospital is the recipient of funding from the Rockefeller Foundation which is building a new wing.
However on four occassions some of the victim's family doctors described their frustrations with old and possibly obsolete equipment used by the hospital. Through her relatives and their doctors the grand daughter described to an association for the elderly the procedures used on her family, the outcome of surgery and the doctors attributions of problems with surgery by equipment which was acquired 40 years earlier. So a wing is being constructed for a hospital with substandard security and poor equipment, if that is not enough, they filmed commercials at a cost of $250,000 for the hospital. Are they inviting more victims to the slaughter?
Additionally she learned the Rockefeller Foundation financed a study some years earlier in which
the researchers at CAMC learned Charleston West Virginia is the center of a cancer cluster attributed t chemical factories in the area. Yet, the results were never published. The Chilton family involved in the paper also serves on the Board of Trustees of the hospital, Rockefellers have interests in the local paper and some say in the construction company building the new wing.
And there are the rumors and questions about credentials of the Hospital Administrator, said to have graduated from Shermansville College, and admitted with low scores before the school was accredited. His degree is not in hospital administration. His attention to security and records management and acquisition of medical equipment is not on his list of priorities. Some comments about him are merely rumors, but rumors which should be looked into, perhaps by the personnel office. Anyone can research on the internet to learn what other lawsuits have been filed against
CAMC hospital and one was for slander of a physician held in high esteem by the community.
One was for the little monopoly which seems to take everyone to CAMC regardless of their condition.
One one occassion the grandmother was denied treatement at the hospital emergency room, by an MD who complained because the granddaughter had used a name identical to his in her complaint to law enforcement. He sent her home, the next day the family took the grandmother to her regular doctor who sent her back to CAMC.Again if the administrator and his obviously unethical law firm granted staff the opportunity to read the woman's remarks for themselves it would have been clear the names used were not of those implicated in the crime, and also, it seemed to her to be in the best interest of employees to know what she was told and by whom and at what time and which location where incidentes occurred. Truly, also, if the staff had been informed of the problem attributed to drug abuse and involving fire arms, they could have contributed information or decided to seek employment elsewhere. The grandmother's medical team said they had visitation rights at other hospitals.
The it was discovered the staff refused to answer the granddaughters requests for a micro wave to warm soup for her grandmother, she overheard them making fun of her grandmother's drooping breasts. Her grandmother was lucid and had recall when she was not ill, she remembered the woman with the gun and she remembered having her feelings hurt. The family showed the woman photos of herself when she was younger and always told her she was beautiful, the most insensitive of all personnel were treating the old woman at the hospital, some obviously too repelled by old age to even touch her, others who stated over and over again she had no feeling - but she was not administered pain medication.
She asked Charleston Police Department to interview her grandmother. They never did, her grandmother died at home at night, peacefully. The hospital staff the granddaughter saw at a Coffee Shop a short time after the funeral told her not, they were sorry, they said her grandmother's medical records were being destroyed. Name of witnesses would be on those sheets, but the granddaughter made a journal and e-mailed it to a law firm in Virginia, which unfortunately does not have reciprocity, she also sent to her contacts with Federal Agencies and
Law Enforcement.
Charleston WV is a dirty nasty town, a town where one life might have been saved from brain cancer if the population knew their factories were dangerous. One family might have picked up a paycheck and moved out of town before it was too late. WestVirginia is a dirty poor state where a nod from the hospital rewards those who harass its victims and another nod attacks the helpless. People are bought and sold in West Virginia, they have no option other than to lie or steal or brutalize for money, look up the rates of college educated people between the ages of 25 and 65 in WV , I see 4 per cent only have degrees. Look at national rates of obesity. Look at the wierd religions which flourish in this climate, snake handlers, speaking in tongues, bigotry and
many sects some have burned books and protested lectures offered by former Governor Caperton who hosted Carl Sagen. West Virginia is a good place to hide for less than adequate professionals.
And the woman from Virginia is trying to go home, each interview costs her plane fare, lodgings, she is comming unglued and describes the state as Planet of the Apes, Village of the Dammed,
Dueling Banjos, It really is awful, I was there for a few days. The state slogan is Open for Business I would agree it is highly probable Business is Under the Table.
Charleston Police Department in Charleston WV have a secret story. They have a case number
assigned to a woman who was almost murdered at Charleston General Hospital (CAMC), a public hospital, six months ago in October 07. The Prosecutor has a secret story, when is the trial , who was the woman, his wife's sister? Ahh, life behind the Iron Curtain. We are hoping she will escape and remain alive. Truth is stranger than fiction, you don't have to travel to Saudi Arabia to see first hand how women are treated, visit WV - you don't have to go to a country led by a dictator to see how favoritism influence prosecution, you don't have to go far to observe what a news blackout can do to keep the public uninformed and you don't have to travel to West Virginia unless you can buy your way out.
